5 Session Highlights from Oracle CloudWorld 2023

Oracle CloudWorld 2023 was a huge success with many of the announcements from Oracle focused on generative AI and how it is driving solution development. Here are 5 session highlights from Oracle and Argano.

1. CloudWorld presentation: Keynote session with Oracle Chairman and CTO Larry Ellison

Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison covered how the company is embedding generative AI in cloud services, noting “generative AI, is it the most important new computer technology ever? Probably.” He covered how code generation will be done through the nimble application platform Oracle APEX, which can write code faster than humans can, and how it is faster and more economical for companies to build AI in the Oracle Cloud. He also spoke about the agricultural industry, with AI-powered indoor greenhouses using 98% less water than is used outdoors. Towards the end of his session, he detailed the relationship between Oracle and Microsoft, and the importance of interconnected and standardized cloud environments, helping companies run services quickly, reliably, and securely.

2. CloudWorld presentation: Keynote session with Oracle CEO Safra Catz

In the session Putting Customer Success at the Heart of Everything, Oracle CEO Safra Catz was joined by C-level leaders from Uber, AON, Loblaws, TIM Brasil, First Solar, and Emerson. Catz and her guests covered business transformation, using technology to offer new services and support customers in new and innovative ways. It was noted how Oracle Cloud Applications enable scaling up or scaling down use based on need, working together on use of AI, and the need to have a cloud platform that mitigates operational risk. Also covered was the importance of automation and connected ecosystems.

3. CloudWorld presentation: The Transition to Oracle Cloud — CTB’s Journey to Modernization

CTB, Inc. presented its journey with Argano and Oracle Cloud. A leading manufacturer of systems and solutions for preserving grain and processing poultry, CTB wanted to move from a customized on-premises solution using JDE to cross-pillar Oracle Cloud Applications. Jennifer Leatherman, CTB Director of IT Business Solutions and Jason Andrews, Solutions Director from Argano covered background on CTB, why CTB chose Oracle and Argano, the project roadmap, benefits realized, and lessons learned. The session covered how CTB uses Oracle Cloud Applications across the business, including in Finance, Procurement, Supply Chain, Human Resources, and Customer Experience, for a complete cloud solution.

4. CloudWorld presentation: Argano and Oracle Cloud Help Placon Innovate and Achieve Sustainability Goals

Placon Applications Manager Dan Reilly and Argano VP Sambit Misra covered how Placon, a leading designer and manufacturer of custom and stock packaging solutions for products in the retail, grocery, and medical industries, is reducing overhead with Oracle Cloud SCM Constrained Supply Planning and Demand Management. Placon was using on-premises EBS and faced capacity constraints because of growth and needed to maintain customer satisfaction levels. The company partnered with Argano to implement Oracle Cloud Supply Planning and Demand Management and connect Oracle GOP Cloud to EBS.

5. CloudWorld presentation: Becoming a Skills-Focused Organization with Oracle Cloud HCM

Susan Thoemmes, Senior Vice President and Director of People Services, Technology and Operations at Bank of Hawai‘i, Cathy Murray, VP HCM Solutions at Argano, and Christine Yokoi, Senior Director Product Strategy at Oracle presented on the Bank of Hawai‘i journey using Oracle Cloud HCM. The Bank is a full-suite Oracle Cloud HCM customer, including among other things Core HR, Payroll, Recruiting, Onboarding, Benefits, Compensation, and Talent Management. Susan noted that from a talent perspective, skill mapping provided the basis for discussions between employees and managers. Business area leaders led the effort, and HR guided and facilitated the process, using Oracle Cloud HCM.

Bank of Hawai‘i won the Oracle Cloud HCM HR Hero 2023 Cultivate Award (for thoughtful focus and design of the employee experience).
